Schools Program

The Queensland Lacrosse Association has been developing the sport of lacrosse in Queensland for a number of years now with Queensland's first established club, teams and clinics being run in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. Students from many schools have gained state representation by being included in our Queensland Pumas Lacrosse Teams. In the last 5 years these teams have travelled interstate to compete in the Under 15 and Under 17 boys and girls Australian National Championships. As well as in the the last 3 years 5 players going international and representing Australia in the U-21 APSAC, U-18 Development Team and U-19 Team Koala. Many schools in South East Queensland already play lacrosse or soft-crosse.

The Queensland Lacrosse Association is looking to provide the opportunity for all students to learn about and play lacrosse.

Our temporary Development Officer can offer your school the following services:-

  • A one off class to provide the history of the game, a description of the rules and skills before a student game,
  • Regular weekly visits for a period of time to teach more skills then run games, and
  • Regular weekly visits to train school teams in an area then run an interschool competition.
  • We usually address students and demonstrate the game for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

A manageable group would be one class of students. We bring all the equipment needed for the students to try their hand at the game.

Last year, many schools took advantage of our help to run successful interschool lacrosse competitions. We are very keen to see Lacrosse become an interschool sport, whether it is played in its traditional form of field lacrosse or it can be a great indoor competition.

In addition, Australian Lacrosse Association (ALA) will give QLD the opportunity to host the national Coaching and Refereeing Coarses in 2010.

We are now in the process of booking school clinics, arranging interschool competitions and planning to give as many people as possible the opportunity to gain a Caoching and/or Refereeing qualifications. If you are interested in any of the services we can offer schools and teachers, would like to discuss planning an interschool competition or would like to know more about the sport please do not hesitate to contact the Development Officer (contact details here).

Finally, if you have any students who you believe would be keen to play lacrosse for their state, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are now calling for boys and girls to tryout for the Under 15s, 17s, 19s, Men and Women teams. Experience is not necessary as we will provide all the training necessary and can loan all the equipment needed.
